Hi Ted.
I’m on the hunt for some new VU bulbs my my Alice 828 MK1 and was wondering what voltage and mA is required.
Do I need 4 x 6V 70mA bulbs or 4 x 12V 70mA bulbs or something else?
Thanks.
I reckon I worked it out. I have 26V AC fed to the meters (measured with a cheapo multimeter) so that should be good for 4 x 6V bulbs in series. As for a current, I have some 70mA bulbs but my meter doesn’t seem to be able to measure the current coming from the psu.
Well, I fitted 4 x 6V bulbs but now one of them has gone out.
Any advice?
Thanks.
Yes, you have the answer! I never did like the illumination additions to the AL22 meters!
Nowadays I always use LEDs, the old tungsten lamps were truly awful, they invariably overheated and burned out.
Saying that, my TFPRO meters are fitted with standard tungsten lamps. I run them with a series 220 ohm resistor from the onboard 24V supply, they give adequate and friendly lighting and don’t burn out.
Thanks. I’ll fit a resistor too. I don’t need them to be super bright so that’ll be perfect.
I’ll also have a look into future a LED solution.
Cheers 🙂
