Hi Ted don’t know if you can help me , I have a rack of 4 BD8 limiters and 2 CNS 1 modules that have never been connected.

The limiters work fine but the CNS 1’s Are a mystery?

Do you have any idea what these are ?

If you have any information it would be very helpful.

The console is a Alice trackplan.

    Best Regards

CNS is a ‘one shot’ noise reduction system, similar to Dolby but it works on playback only signals to reduce background noise.

I developed it specifically for the Trackplan system and it was a competitor to dBX. It works by splitting the audio into 4 bands and expanding them independently, then re-combining them. Nowadays it is not particularly relevant because noise is no longer a problem, but it might be useful as an expansion effect. :)
