The original VC1 had a transformer mic input. It was the same circuit as ‘the brick’. The British Channel was a later circuit using a solid state mic amp. The later circuit is very good but it does not have the same ‘gloss’ that the earlier one had!

I would recommend sticking to the earlier one if you can…. although I would be happy using either as high quality channels.
