Hello, I am going to buy an used vc3q unit, with Ted’s signature in front. The seller sent me a picture showing the adapter and I think it is not the original one. Anyway could you tell me if the adapter is good for the vc3q, please?
Or maybe should I get anither adapter with different values of miliamps or watts or anything?

Seller and me live in Spain
I send here pics of adapter and unit showing “Power: USA”
    Thank you

    Ernesto

    Babiuk,

The manual for my VC3Q (USA-model) says to use 12v AC external power.

    From the manual: http://www.joemeek.com/pdf/vc3q.pdf” class=”bbcode_url”>http://www.joemeek.com/pdf/vc3q.pdf

    THE POWER SUPPLY

An external 12V AC power supply provides the power for the unit.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO POWER THE UNIT FROM ANY POWER SUPPLY OTHER THAN THE ONE SUPPLIED WITH THE UNIT.

Circuitry inside the VC3Q converts the 12V AC into 14.5-0-14.5V and a 48V DC supply for the phantom power.

    Thanks, Dale.

Yes, I know this is what manual says, but I’d like to know what specs for buying a new power supply. The one with the unit is DC output and I don’t know if I should try to plug in

You need an AC to 12vAC transformer. Here in the US, I purchased a cheap 120vAC to 12vAC, 1500mA transformer like this: http://www.radioshack.com/enercell-12v-1500ma-ac-adapter/2730358.html#start=3” class=”bbcode_url”>http://www.radioshack.com/enercell-12v-1500ma-ac-adapter/2730358.html#start=3

As you know, your picture shows a 230vAC to DC output. Proclaiming my ignorance of overseas voltages, you should locate a “wallwart” that is ???vAC to 12vAC, more than 300mA/.3A

Here is a link to information, from Ted Fletcher, on transformers:

I hope this helps and that you have a Happy New Year with your 3Q. :)

    Thanks

    Happy new year!

I plugged the adaptor and the comp is not working neither showing light, I found a web with someone with same scenario and he discovered the problem was the adaptor.

So I will try to get an AC adaptor, you say one power supply of more than 300ma is right, isn’t it?

    Mr. Ted Fletcher,

I owe you a HUGE apology, for thread-jacking this post. I just realized it says “Ask Ted”, not Ask Dale.. I hope that my interjection did not cause any harm. Please delete my post if you feel it should be removed. It will not happen again.
