I upgraded the power supply. My brick 2 beats my custom valve amp, original Brick and Groove tubes Brick. Waiting to hear the Villein.

I need to repair a 828 MK1 that has problems in the Master Section.

The VUs donĀ“t work, the limiter doesn’t seem to be working also, it needs some troubleshooting.

Do you have a schematic for the 828 MK1 Master section, including the VU’s , the limiter circuit and the the master faders?

Thank you so much

in a numbered websites and forum I’ve seen some groovy colored Alice consoles,

one of them in Purple that seem to have been owned by Joe Walsh and another one in Green Color that belonged to Cat Steven.

Both consoles seem to share the same modules and channels are similar.

I never seen information on these Alice consoles before, and they are not the most common Alice desks seen everywhere, like the 828 or 2008,

the looks and design is also completely different.

Do you have information on these consoles? What is the model number? how many where made? when were they built?

Or a rough collection of the artists that used them?

photos attached

Thank you so much

And how does it compare the 504 series mic pre with limiter and transformer?

It’s great to know that the BRICK2 is 100% made in England. Supporting local manufacturing is always a plus. And it’s cool that you handle the final assembly and packing personally. The Harmonic Enhancer sounds like a lot of fun to play around with during mixdowns. Having both an “add” and “subtract” feature is great, and I agree that it’s something that can’t be replicated with a plugin.

It’s always interesting to hear about your experiences and your critical tests. It’s true that there is a wide variety of options out there, and sometimes it can be difficult to navigate through all the marketing claims and find a truly reliable and high-performing device.

I’ve been using RME interfaces for maybe ten years now, they are bullet proof and sound great. The other good brands are UAD, Apogee, and then Focusrite make affordable options.

It’s great to hear that the SubZero SZ-A12 has been working well for you and meeting your needs. It’s always reassuring when you find a piece of gear that performs reliably and consistently. The fact that it has good power supply noise suppression and excellent audio performance is definitely a plus.

I can understand your disappointment with some of the newer interfaces claiming higher sample rates. It’s unfortunate that they didn’t meet your expectations in terms of harmonic distortion and crosstalk. It’s important to remember that higher sample rates alone don’t guarantee better audio quality. The design and implementation of the interface play a crucial role in achieving optimal performance.

It’s also worth considering that different interfaces may have different target markets and price points, which can affect their overall performance and quality. Sometimes, inexpensive options like the SubZero SZ-A12 can surprise us with their capabilities.

At the end of the day, finding the right gear is about balancing your needs, budget, and performance expectations. It’s great that you’ve found a reliable interface that meets your needs, and I’m sure it will continue to serve you well.

That’s some fascinating history about PYE. I love learning about the origins of companies and how their products have evolved over time.

It’s really cool that your company, Alice Ltd., has acquired the rights to the PYE logo and trademark. Reviving a brand with such a rich history and using it on your new stereo compressor/limiter, the PYE 4061S, sounds like a great idea. It’s a nice nod to the original BBC 4060 compressor, which clearly made a significant impact in the industry.

I’m curious to know more about the PYE 4061S. What sets it apart from other compressors/limiters on the market? Are there any unique features or design elements that make it stand out?

Looking forward to hearing more about your company and any other exciting projects you have in the works!

The effect of this would be to put a load onto the other side of the transformer shorting out the audio. If it’s an output transformer this could damage the drive circuit, if it’s an input transformer there is not likely to be any damage, just won’t work!

They became very successful during the second world war designing and manufacturing a complete range of radio transceivers for the allied forces. After merging with EKCO and under the control of Philips in the 60s and 70s they were successful with broadcasting equipment particularly with a unique type of compressor which became popular with the BBC, this was the type 4060. Towards the end of the 70s the company ran into difficulties and stopped trading. In 2021 at about the time I rejoined Alice as a director, we bought the rights to the logo and trademark of PYE and decided to use the name on our new stereo compressor/limiter, calling it the PYE 4061S in deference to the original BBC 4060 compressor which was such a unique design.
PYE is now a registered name and trademark of Alice Ltd.
